When the time comes to hire the right tree service can seem like a daunting task.  Although there are many questions you may have before hiring a tree removal service it is always a good idea to do your own research.

As a rule of thumb before I hire any professional service I always spend a couple of hours to educate myself on what the project entails. Spend a couple of hours looking at videos or reading blogs from professionals in that field. They will educate you on the steps it will take to complete and most of the time give you some really good advice on do’s and dont’s.

Making conversation with family, friends, neighbors or co-workers about your project and they will most likely throw out a few tree services that they have used or friends and families might have hired.

No matter who you go with always get three quotes before hiring any one. This way you have price options and you may even get more bang for your buck. It is very important that you don’t let money be the main choice in who does the work. This could cost you more in the long run if you don’t use good judgement Before I start any landscape installations I always give a written estimate and details on the work to be done. Now things do arise that are unknown and do cost a little more but most of the time this doesn’t happen. A work detail will also give you an understanding of what scope of work is being done.

Let me share a quick story of me not doing this after hiring a tree removal service. When my family and I moved into our house in 2017 we had a couple of dead trees and a few that were kinda out of place. We decided to have these trees removed. My father had used a guy and said he did a pretty good job. So I gave the guy a call to take a look at the work and give me an estimate on work to be completed. He came by the next day and we walked around the yard looking and talking about his services. I asked him how long he had been in business , if he was insured all the right questions. He gave me an estimate and he started about a week later. My wife told me that I should take the day off to make sure things go as planned or if the guys had any questions. I told her that they are professionals and they know what they are doing. I left that morning around 7:30am for work. While I was at work I was excited to go home at work and see the beginning of the transformation of our yard. I arrived at my house for lunch and wanted to see the progress the tree service. As I was pulling up they were looking up the pecan tree as they were trying to see what would be the best way to drop it. I jumped out of my truck running as fast as I could to stop the madness. As I approached the tree I saw that they had already cut off a whole side to the tree. My wife loves that tree and I knew when she saw it she was going to be heart broken. The guys apologized and started working on another tree. I was upset and couldn’t believe that they were going to cut down a tree that we didn’t discuss. I had to break the news to my wife later that night. As I predicted she was upset. I was lost for words as she stared at a tree with one whole side gone. If I would had only got an written work order and took the day off everything would had gone a little smoother. That is why I am telling you now GET A WORK ORDER.

Make sure your questions are all answered. Ask questions like how long will the project. Remember, this will disrupt your life for as long as the project is in motion so it is a good idea to get a time frame. As a few question to see if the tree company is legit and knows how to remove a tree safely with as little damage as possible.

Before hiring any company to do major work, especially taking down a tree close to your home or buildings, make sure they have insurance. Ask to see proof of insurance and workman’s comp. If anyone they employ gets hurt on your property with worksmans comp it could cost you in the future.

Ask questions! You should have questions about how long the project will take. Or maybe how long have they been in business.  Before you hire anyone to work they should be willing to answer all of your questions. How that treat you in the beginning is is a good indication of how smooth the project will go.

The main points to take from this is to educate yourself and use your best judgement when hiring tree removal services. If you follow these simple tips you should have your work done with ease.
